Breaking News - Race Report Stage 1 - Bhutan

A record number of runners from 22 different countries experienced a very emotional starting ceremony today at the most beautiful Fortress in Bhutan, the Punakha Dzong.

After paying our respect to the Kingdom of Bhutan by joining 300 local school students' singing of the country's national anthem, the Lama from the Punakha Dzong blessed the runners and wished them a safe race and good weather, which also marks the start of the 200km, 6 days multistage race - Globallimits Bhutan - The Last Secret - 5th edition.

The runners run along the scenic river at the Punakha Valley, crossed the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan and witnessed (hopefully not too long) a traditional Bhutanese archery competition next to the king's farm land.  Kurt Alderweireldt from Belgium, Loz Wong from Hongkong/U.K. and Micheal Traub from the US lead the male category; Sabrina Bachinelli from Italy, Ruthann Sheahan from Ireland and Wiwin Leung from HK lead the female category in this stage.  Tonight all participants are camping inside the Chorten Nyingpo Monastery at 1756m.  The monks have arranged a special evening praying session for us for a sound night of sleep.

Special good wishes to our South Korean runner Moo Woong Lee who celebrates his 74th birthday with our race! Thank you!
