Breaking News - Race Report Albania stage 2

The local primary school of the Buze village provided a shelter for us last night.

An easy downhill start at 7am on the second race day for our runners – and there are a lot of trails, green and technical running for them.  The finish line is at the end of the never-ending 2 km climb to the village of Peshtan - a traditional village with about 50 houses on the left bank of the Vjosa River.  It was an important fighting field during the Italian-Greek war in the 1940's.  The head of the village, Mirela, who helped coordinate our stay, even found an outdoor museum of Greek war wreckage in her house.  But tonight, there will be no war but hospitality from our hosts to our runners – they will spend the evening with local families and may even try homemade Albanien cuisines!

At this stage, Bryan Gensits from USA won this stage with 3:18hrs ahead of Ralph Crowley also from USA. Again Alfred and Gezim Gaxhja from the Albania took the joined third place today. The female winner today was again Christina Khinast from Austria. Second today was Belinda van der Riet from South Africa ahead of Kirsten Domdey from Germany. No changes in the overall male ranking with Bryan Gensits leading 20mins ahead of Ralph Crowley and the 2 Gaxhja brothers. Slight changes in the female overall rankings: Christina Khinast is still leading. Now second is Belinda van der Riet just 5 seconds ahead of Barbara Blok.

Special mention Matt Miguelena from USA who had a far better day than yesterday and finished at an impressive 8th place at this stage.

Tomorrow is the longest stage with 55km guiding the runners through the beautiful Zagoria Valley.
