Race Report Stage 1 - Bhutan

Local school children from the villages of Punakha set our runners on the race course of GlobalLimits Bhutan – The Last Secret 6th edition with their solemn and beautiful voice singing the national anthem of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

The head Lama from the Punakha Dzong blessed our runners for good weather and a safe race.  When the chanting finishes, our runners started their 6 days, 200km journey through the beautiful landscape of Bhutan.  The longest suspension bridge in Bhutan is awaiting them at check-point 1.

Today, their goal after running 30,7km is the Chorten Nyingpo Monastery at 1756m.  The weather condition is great for run – light wind with cloudy sky.  All runner now have arrived at the finish. French runner Guillaume Degoulet is the first male in this stage in 2:45hrs  followed by Tommy Chen from Taiwan in 2:46hrs and Michael Benz from Switzerland takes the third male place in 3:03hrs. Guillaume has set the course record for this stage for 3 minutes.

At the female side, Angela Zäh from Germany does not only set a new female course record for this stage in 3::03hrs but she is also the third overall in this stage.  Elisabet Margeirsdottir from Iceland takes the second place in 3:10hrs and Sarah Sawyer from the United Kingdom takes the third place in 3:42hrs.

Tonight they will camp in the courtyard of the Monastery and prepare for tomorrow's stage.
